The Wind Vane:
The wind vane has been around for hundreds of years and has one simple job. That simple job is to measure wind. As you may know you can do this with a blade of grass or your wet finger, but this not accurate enough and has too many variables for scientific measurement. Above you will find a link to build your own wind vane.
Instructions:
It is best if you place your wind vane in a highest area possible. Make sure your wind vane is not touching anything and is not in an area where is surrounded by anything that could affect wind speed or direction. Unlike you may think the arrow does not point in the direction the wind is blowing. As you will notice, the wind vane will turn perpindicular to the wind. This is because there is a larger surface area for the wind to push against. This data combined with the simple wet finger or blowing grass trick, you can get accurate readings as to which way the wind is blowing.
